Maihueniopsis glochidiata

This species was described by G. Charles in 2011. It is the latest described Maihueniopsis.

The typus was found in the Sierra Famatina, La Rioja, Argentina, at an altitude of 2755 m.

During our last visit in the Sierra Famatina in 2016 we were lucky to find these plants.

The plants had freshly filled with water and thus were rather easy to find.

The second picture shows pretty well, why these plants were called “glochidiata“.
